Sidney Crosby Potential Move from Penguins to Canadiens

Sidney Crosby isn’t going anywhere – at least that’s what the evidence suggests, despite swirling rumors about the Pittsburgh Penguins’ superstar possibly heading to Montreal.

Just last year, Crosby signed on to stay with the Pens through 2027, showing his commitment to the only NHL team he’s ever known.

But at 38, the trade whispers keep coming, especially linking him to the Canadiens.

"I just don’t think that (leaving the Penguins) has really entered Sidney Crosby’s mind as far as I can tell," says Frank Seravalli of Bleacher Report, speaking on Sportsnet’s "Big Show with Rusic and Rose."

Seravalli says two things would need to happen for a trade to even be possible: Crosby would have to ask for it himself, and it would need to be for "a really special situation."

Sure, Montreal seems like a natural fit on paper. Crosby has personal connections there, and the team’s been looking better under coach Martin St. Louis. But there’s a big problem – actually, several of them.

His contract runs until 2027 with some hefty signing bonuses. Moving that kind of deal isn’t simple. Any team would need both Crosby’s okay and enough salary cap space to make it work.

Then there’s Crosby’s history with Pittsburgh. He’s always chosen to stay, signing extension after extension. Why would he change that now?

The hockey side doesn’t make much sense either. In Pittsburgh, Dan Muse‘s system is practically built around Crosby. He’s got great chemistry with linemates Rickard Rakell and Bryan Rust. Starting over with new teammates at this point in his career? That’s a tough sell.

Plus, the Penguins are still competitive. Crosby’s not just their star player – he’s their leader, their face of the franchise.

Bottom line? Pittsburgh’s front office isn’t looking to move their icon, and Crosby seems perfectly happy right where he is.
