Sidney Crosby Contract Length Prediction

Sidney Crosby is likely to sign his final contract extension soon.

Josh Yohe from The Athletic believes it’s just a matter of time before Crosby inks a new deal. “My guess is that Crosby’s next contract will be for three years,” Yohe shared in a mailbag on Monday. He doesn’t know for sure, but that’s what he’s heard.

Some wonder about Crosby’s future since he could have signed a new contract since July but hasn’t yet. Yohe thinks the Penguins might not be great this season after missing the playoffs twice in a row, but there’s no sign Crosby wants to leave Pittsburgh. “I’m sure he’d love to hit 700 goals and 2,000 points,” Yohe said about Crosby, who has 592 career goals and 1,596 points so far. “Those numbers are not unrealistic, especially the 700 goals.”

Future with the Penguins:

Crosby turns 37 in August and seems keen on playing with Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang until they all retire. In October 2023, they became the longest-lasting trio of teammates in North American pro sports history. “I have no doubt Crosby will remain something of a fixture in Pittsburgh,” Yohe added. He loves it there and might stay involved with hockey somehow, maybe even invest in team ownership or become a general manager like Steve Yzerman.

Fans might think it’s cool if he becomes part-owner or GM someday.

As of Monday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had the Penguins at +120 odds to make the playoffs this season. While winning another title with Crosby seems unlikely now, he doesn’t want to play for any other team before retiring.

What do you think about Sidney’s plans?
