The Pittsburgh Penguins put on an absolute show Monday night, crushing the New York Islanders 8-3 in a crucial matchup between two teams desperate for a playoff spot.
It was the Penguins’ highest-scoring game all season – and they did it without a single goal from Sidney Crosby, who was back in action after missing Saturday’s loss to Dallas.
But Crosby wasn’t exactly quiet. The Penguins’ captain still made his mark with two assists, helping his teammates light up the scoreboard.
Those two helpers weren’t just any ordinary assists. They pushed Crosby into some pretty incredible territory – he now stands alone in third place for most multi-point games in NHL history with 514.
That’s right: 514 games with at least two points. He just passed Hockey Hall of Famer Marcel Dionne, who he’d tied earlier this month on March 18.
What’s even more impressive? Crosby’s still piling up these multi-point performances at an amazing rate. In this season alone, he’s had 21 games where he’s recorded at least two points – and he’s only played in 62 games so far.
The Penguins’ offensive explosion couldn’t have come at a better time, as every point matters in their tight race for a playoff spot. And while Crosby might not have found the back of the net himself, his playmaking ability showed exactly why he’s one of the greatest to ever play the game.
