Penguins Forwards Face Injury Challenges

Kevin Hayes is now listed as week-to-week due to an upper-body injury, according to Mike Sullivan. Cody Glass has also been diagnosed with a concussion and is on injured reserve.

Hayes got hurt last Tuesday against the Islanders, but no one knows exactly how it happened. He’s already missed two games, and if the Penguins need space on their roster, they might put him on injured reserve starting November 5th. This means he could miss at least four more games. The Penguins traded for Hayes in June from the Blues, along with a 2025 second-round pick, while the Flyers kept half of his contract. So far this season, he’s played 14 times for Pittsburgh with three goals and one assist but only averages about nine and a half minutes per game.

Glass’s concussion could keep him out longer than just the required seven days for IR placement. Like Hayes, it’s unclear when Glass got hurt during his last game against the Hurricanes where they lost 5-1. He played less than five minutes that night and didn’t return after the first period. Before getting injured, Glass had appeared in 14 games too, managing four assists but holding a -7 rating while playing nearly twelve minutes each game.

Injuries Impacting Team Dynamics:

Fans might feel worried about these injuries affecting team performance. In his first season with Pittsburgh after being traded from Nashville in August, Glass was picked sixth overall by Vegas in 2017 but has been used differently here—more defensively focused with most of his starts coming from their own end at even strength. Despite not scoring much yet offensively, he’s done well controlling shots (58.7%) and expected goals (58.3%).

It’s always tough when key players are sidelined like this; what do you think will happen next?
