Penguins Face Crisis if Crosby Seeks Trade

Sidney Crosby might actually leave Pittsburgh – and Montreal could be his next stop.

The Penguins superstar and his agent just dropped some pretty interesting hints about a possible move to the Canadiens in a recent chat with The Athletic.

“I mean, it’s always a possibility, you know?” said Pat Brisson, Crosby’s agent, when asked about the Montreal rumors.

Sure, Crosby says he wants to stay in Pittsburgh. But at 38, the future Hall of Famer might be thinking about one last career move.

Here’s the thing: Crosby holds all the cards.

He’s got a no-movement clause in his contract, which means the Penguins can’t trade him anywhere without his OK. And if he picks Montreal, that’s Pittsburgh’s only option – they’d have to deal with just the Canadiens.

That’s tough news for the Penguins’ front office.

They can’t start a bidding war. They can’t shop around for the best deal. If Crosby wants Montreal, it’s Montreal or nothing.

The Canadiens have already made things clear: they’re not giving up their top young talent. Any deal would probably center around draft picks and developing players.

Crosby’s contract runs through 2026-27, so the Penguins could technically just say no. But let’s be real – if a franchise legend like Crosby asks for a trade, you probably don’t tell him no.

It’s a sticky situation for Pittsburgh. Either keep a possibly unhappy superstar, or accept whatever Montreal’s willing to offer.
