K’Andre Miller Successor Seeks Rangers Roster Spot

Scott Morrow knows he has big skates to fill after joining the New York Rangers in the K’Andre Miller trade with Carolina. But the 22-year-old defenseman isn’t backing down from the challenge.

"K’Andre was a big part of the team here," Morrow told Rangers media. "If they value me enough to want me back in a package like that for a player that good, it shows that they think somewhat highly of me. I just want to prove them right."

The young blueliner isn’t taking anything for granted. He’s already jumped into rookie camp ahead of the main training camp, eager to show what he can bring to the Rangers’ defense.

There’s definitely room for him to crack the lineup. Right now, only Adam Fox, Vladislav Gavrikov, and Will Borgen have locked down spots on the Rangers’ blue line for the 2025-26 season.

Morrow brings an interesting mix of skills to the table. He’s got the size to be tough in his own end, but he can also move the puck well and jump into the offense when needed.

"Being more reliable defensively is something I’m working on," he said.

That commitment to improving his defensive game could be key. The Rangers are looking to rebuild their defense after the Miller trade, and Morrow’s versatility might be exactly what they need.

Coach Mike Sullivan will have some tough decisions to make when camp opens. But Morrow’s focused on controlling what he can control.

"I’m just concentrating on my own game and showing how I’ve grown as a player," he explained.

With his skill set and the openings on the Rangers’ blue line, don’t be surprised if Morrow earns himself a regular spot in the lineup this fall.
