Canada’s Olympic hockey dream team is starting to take shape, with 42 NHL stars getting the call to Calgary’s orientation camp this August.
Connor McDavid, Sidney Crosby, and Nathan MacKinnon headline the star-studded group that’ll compete for spots on the 2026 Olympic roster. They’re among six players already guaranteed a ticket to Italy, alongside Cale Makar, Brayden Point, and Sam Reinhart.
The three-day camp, running August 26-28, marks Hockey Canada’s first major step toward building their men’s, women’s, and para hockey teams for the Winter Games.
When it comes to stopping pucks, Canada’s keeping it simple. They’re sticking with the same three goalies who helped them win the 4 Nations Face-Off in February: Jordan Binnington, Adin Hill, and Sam Montembeault.
The forward group is absolutely stacked. Rising star Connor Bedard could get his first shot at Olympic glory, while veterans like Brad Marchand and Mark Stone bring their playoff-tested experience to the mix.
On defense, they’ve got a nice blend of youth and experience. Drew Doughty’s championship pedigree pairs nicely with emerging stars like Evan Bouchard and Noah Dobson.
The team’s brain trust is pretty impressive too. Blues GM Doug Armstrong’s leading the charge, with some serious firepower behind him – Lightning GM Julien BriseBois, Stars GM Jim Nill, and Bruins GM Don Sweeney are all helping call the shots.
They’ve even brought in retired star Ryan Getzlaf as a player relations advisor, while Kyle Dubas is handling player personnel duties. Jon Cooper’s got the head coaching reins.
Only 25 players will make the final cut – 22 skaters and three goalies. With this much talent to choose from, those decisions won’t be easy.
