The Vegas Golden Knights have locked up their Stanley Cup-winning goalie Adin Hill with a massive six-year, $37.5 million deal.
It’s a huge payday for Hill, who’ll make $6.25 million per year – making him one of the NHL’s top-paid goalies.
The 28-year-old has come a long way since Vegas picked him up for just a fourth-round draft pick in 2022. Back then, he was supposed to be nothing more than a backup plan.
But sometimes the best stories come from unexpected places.
When injuries hit the Golden Knights’ goalies during their 2023 Stanley Cup run, Hill stepped up in a huge way. He posted an incredible 11-4 record with a .932 save percentage, helping Vegas capture their first-ever championship.
It was a gamble that paid off perfectly – for both sides.
Instead of signing long-term right after the Cup win, Hill bet on himself with a shorter two-year deal. Now he’s cashing in big time.
While his basic stats this season might not jump off the page – a .906 save percentage in 39 games – the advanced numbers tell a different story. He’s saved nearly 14 goals above what an average goalie would be expected to stop, showing just how valuable he’s been for the defending champs.
His record this year stands at 24-11-4, with four shutouts and a solid 2.53 goals-against average.
The deal gives Vegas stability in net for years to come, though it does eat into their salary cap space. They’ll have about $10.5 million to work with this summer – not enough for any huge moves, but plenty to keep their championship core together.
For Hill, it’s the perfect ending to a fairytale rise: from backup plan to Stanley Cup hero to franchise goalie.
