The Utah Hockey Club has signed Cole Beaudoin to a three-year entry-level contract.
With this deal, Utah secures its second first-round pick from last month’s draft. The contract includes a $975K cap hit, with an $877.5K NHL salary, a $97.5K signing bonus, and an $85K minors salary each season. Earlier, they signed their top selection Tij Iginla.
Beaudoin was picked 24th overall from the OHL’s Barrie Colts after Utah traded for the pick with the Avalanche. They gave up the No. 38 and No. 71 picks plus a second-rounder in 2025 to get him. Last season, he played in 67 games for the Colts and scored 62 points (28 goals, 34 assists).
Draft Expectations:
Utah picked Beaudoin around where scouts expected him to go. TSN’s Bob McKenzie had him at No. 23, Craig Button at No. 28, and Elite Prospects at No. 29. While his potential might not be sky-high, his solid two-way game is praised by many.
Standing tall at 6-foot-2 and weighing nearly 210 pounds, Beaudoin already has the size needed for NHL play next season.
Fans might think this is a smart move by Utah as they build their future team.
Elite Prospects describes Beaudoin as someone who “eats up the boards, grinds them, spins off opponents,” making plays happen out of tight spots on the ice.
His debut in the NHL this season seems unlikely but possible by 2025-26 if he plays fewer than ten games this upcoming season; his ELC will slide to that year with a slightly reduced cap hit since his signing bonus is paid regardless.
Since he was born in April 2006, there’s even room for another slide to the following year if he doesn’t play enough games in ’25-’26 either.
