The Tampa Bay Lightning have delayed their 2024-25 home opener because of Hurricane Milton.
Originally, they were supposed to face the Carolina Hurricanes at Amalie Arena on Saturday night, but now that game will happen later. On Thursday afternoon, the NHL shared that the match is postponed as Tampa deals with the aftermath of Hurricane Milton, a Category 3 storm that hit Wednesday night. They’ll announce a new date soon. Meanwhile, the Lightning are heading to Raleigh for their season opener against the Hurricanes on Friday night after leaving Tampa on Monday.
This marks the third time in recent weeks that hurricanes have disrupted Lightning games. Earlier, they had to delay a preseason game with Nashville due to Hurricane Helene and planned to make it up on Monday night. But as Hurricane Milton approached, they canceled it so they could leave town early.
Weather Woes and Team Travels:
The hurricane didn’t just mess up plans for the Lightning; other teams got caught in its path too. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers left for New Orleans early on Tuesday before their Sunday game against the Saints. Up north, Jacksonville Jaguars faced delays flying out to London but still plan to play Sunday morning.
Fans might be wondering if these weather changes will keep affecting games this season.
In such unpredictable times, what do you think about how teams handle these situations?
