Star Goaltender Confident in Bruins Future

The Boston Bruins and Jeremy Swayman are having a tough time agreeing on a new contract.

Despite the ongoing negotiations, Swayman remains confident about staying with the Bruins. He told NESN that he’s been treating this year like any other, working out with his teammates and staff at Warrior. “There’s something special building in this locker room,” he said. “I know it will take care of itself with time, and I couldn’t be happier to be a Bruin.”

Swayman isn’t too worried about not having a contract yet. He believes everything will work out and is focused on becoming a better goalie for the team .

Contract Negotiations:

The Bruins have around $8.6M in cap space, so money shouldn’t be an issue unless another team makes a big offer like St. Louis did recently with Edmonton players. According to Elliotte Friedman from Sportsnet’s “32 Thoughts,” the talks between Swayman and the Bruins have been tough, possibly because Swayman’s side might be asking for more than what the team thinks he’s worth.

Fans might think these negotiations are dragging on too long.

Swayman has shared net duties with Linus Ullmark since 2021-22, starting only 46.7% of regular-season games so far. This season could be his first as the main goalie if they finalize a deal.

Evolving Hockey predicts Swayman could get a four-year contract worth around $6.25M per year, but it might go up to $7M if it’s long-term. This would still leave Boston enough cap space for other moves during the season.

Although he’s good, Swayman hasn’t yet reached the level of top goalies like Igor Shesterkin or Andrei Vasilevskiy.
