Sharks Have Best Prospect Pool in NHL Say Analysts

The San Jose Sharks have been picking high in the draft lately.

They’ve had top-10 picks three times in four years. This means they lost a lot of games to get those picks, but it might be worth it. With 2024’s No. 1 pick Macklin Celebrini and 2023’s No. 4 pick Will Smith, the Sharks now have the best farm system according to Daily Faceoff.

“Skill, size, versatility, you name it,” said Steven Ellis from DFO. “The Sharks have a bright future ahead.” The team is still a few years away from real progress, but fans will soon see what these young players can do .

Many experts say the Sharks have the deepest group of center prospects in the league. Two of these players—Celebrini and Smith—will play their first NHL games this season. Another player, Thomas Bordeleau, played 27 games last season after the trade deadline.

Building for Tomorrow:

San Jose also added goalie Yaroslav Askarov through a recent trade. He was named the top goaltending prospect in the AHL last season. “They still need more defensive depth,” Ellis noted, “but knowing they have at least one more early draft pick coming makes me feel better.”

Fans might think it’s going to be tough watching them lose for a few more years while young players grow and veterans struggle .

So while it may take some time for things to turn around completely, there is hope on the horizon for San Jose supporters.

What do you think about their future?
