Senators Waive Veteran Forward

Zack MacEwen missed Sunday’s practice because the Ottawa Senators put him on waivers to send him to their AHL team, the Belleville Senators.

In his early career, MacEwen played in the AHL with the Utica Comets, part of the Vancouver Canucks’ system. He scored 37 goals and got 96 points in 155 games there. Last season, he joined the AHL Senators for a short time, scoring two goals and seven points in just ten games. Mostly though, he’s been playing up in Ottawa.

MacEwen has mostly been used as a backup forward for the Senators since he signed a three-year deal worth $2.33 million in 2023. In 49 games with them, he scored four goals and six points while averaging about seven minutes on ice per game . Fans might wonder if this move will help or hurt his career.

Possible Future Moves:

It’s not likely any team will claim him off waivers soon, but some might see his value. With a salary of just $775K and having hit 150 times in two seasons before, teams needing toughness could find him useful for their lower lines without spending much.

What do you think? Will Zack find success back in AHL or surprise us all?
