The Ottawa Senators have brought up goalie Mads Sogaard because Linus Ullmark missed practice on Sunday.
Coach Travis Green said Ullmark was just resting, but it looks like he might not play against the Los Angeles Kings on Monday. No one knows if he’s hurt or not.
Sogaard has been doing well in the AHL, only letting in one goal during his first game, even though his team lost 1-0 in overtime. He saved 27 shots straight! But earlier, he let in three goals on 18 shots during a preseason game with Ottawa.
Senators’ Goalie Situation:
For three seasons, Sogaard has been the third-choice goalie for Ottawa, playing 27 NHL games with mixed results. His record is 10-10-3 with a .884 save percentage. In the AHL, he’s better: 50 wins and a .909 save percentage over 97 games. Fans might worry about Ullmark being hurt since he’s only let five goals through on 58 shots this season and recently signed a big contract to stay four more years for $33 million.
Fans may feel nervous about what this means for their team’s future games.
Ullmark had some injury issues during training camp but seemed fine until now. If he can’t play, Anton Forsberg will step in; last season Forsberg had a record of 15-12-0 and saved .890 percent of shots in his 30 appearances.
What do you think? Will Sogaard shine if given the chance?
