Senators Agree to Build Downtown Arena

The Senators have struck a deal to build a new arena in Ottawa’s LeBreton Flats neighborhood.

This exciting news comes just in time, as the agreement was about to expire. The Senators are moving closer to leaving the Canadian Tire Centre, their home since 1996. However, there’s still a lot to figure out about funding the project.

New owner Michael Andlauer must be feeling relieved . The team has been trying to get land in LeBreton Flats for a while now. Talks have intensified recently, especially since they signed an MOU in 2022. “League sources say the NCC and the Senators made progress on the size of the parcel of land, which would allow for more on-site parking,” Garrioch wrote. “The Senators know they can’t rely solely on the troubled [light rail] system for people to get in or out of the arena.”

What’s Next?

Wayne Scanlan from Sportsnet created a detailed FAQ about what’s left before construction can start. There’s no set date for when building will begin or when it might open.

Fans might wonder if this new location will finally solve all their problems with getting to games.

While it’s great news, there’s still much work ahead before fans can enjoy games at this new downtown spot.

What do you think? Is this move good for the team and its fans?
