Ryan Reaves’ Job at Risk from Critical Flaw

Ryan Reaves joined the Toronto Maple Leafs to be their tough guy, but he hasn’t fought at all this season.

When Reaves was signed, the team hoped he’d bring a gritty style like Tie Domi did back in the day. Instead, he’s struggling on defense, can’t score, seems slow compared to others, and surprisingly isn’t fighting.

During “Leafs Morning Take,” Nick Alberga and Jay Rosehill talked about why Reaves hasn’t been more aggressive. Rosehill said there were moments when Reaves should have started a fight: “There have been opportunities in my mind where Ryan Reaves should have got a scrap going. The Rempe, the Xhekaj. Opening night, in Montreal, statement game, Craig Berube, your team is down, your spinning your wheels, you can’t seem to get a goal. Go right to Xhekaj and try to spark the boys.”

What’s Happening with Ryan Reaves?

Fans might think it’s strange that an enforcer isn’t enforcing anything at all. They expected him to bring some fire and energy.

Sometimes players don’t match their roles perfectly; maybe it’s just not clicking for him yet. Or perhaps there’s another reason behind his quietness on the ice? Who knows!

Do you think Ryan will start fighting soon or keep playing it safe?
