The Red Wings might finally be showing signs of life after a rough start to what was supposed to be their comeback season.
Detroit fans had high hopes for 2024-25, dreaming of their first playoff appearance in years. Instead, they’ve watched their team stumble through the first few months.
But Wednesday night felt different.
The Wings exploded for six goals in a 6-4 win over the Flyers, with their big names finally stepping up. Patrick Kane and Lucas Raymond each posted a goal and an assist, while captain Dylan Larkin chipped in with two helpers.
It’s been a long time coming.
The team sits at just 13-14-4, good enough for sixth place in the Atlantic Division. That’s not where anyone expected them to be, but there’s reason for optimism: they’ve won three of their last four games, scoring an impressive 16 goals in those victories.
The hot streak couldn’t have come at a better time. Detroit had just endured a brutal five-game losing streak that stretched through late November, leaving fans wondering if this season was already lost.
Kane’s performance has been particularly concerning. The 36-year-old star has only managed four goals and 13 points this season, and before Wednesday’s goal, hadn’t found the back of the net since November 13 in Pittsburgh. It’s a far cry from last season when he put up 20 goals and 47 points in just 50 games after joining the Wings.
Larkin’s been struggling too. The captain has 12 goals but hasn’t scored since November 21.
That’s what makes Wednesday’s win so important. The stars are finally producing again.
The road ahead isn’t easy. The Wings face Montreal twice, then take on the Blues, Maple Leafs, Capitals, and Penguins – all teams they’ll need to beat if they want to climb back into the playoff race.
But for the first time in weeks, there’s hope in Hockeytown.
