Gustav Nyquist is on the move again, as the Nashville Predators have shipped the veteran winger to the Minnesota Wild for a second-round pick in 2026.
The Predators will keep half of Nyquist’s $3.185 million salary on their books as part of the deal.
It’s a familiar situation for the 35-year-old Nyquist, who’s becoming quite the trade deadline specialist. This is actually his third time being dealt near the deadline – and his second time heading to Minnesota.
The Wild clearly like what they see in him. Just last year, they grabbed him from Columbus for a fifth-round pick, and now they’re willing to pay quite a bit more to bring him back.
Nyquist has been having a pretty amazing run lately. After signing a two-year deal with Nashville in 2023, he put up the best numbers of his career – 75 points in 81 games, including 52 assists. That’s the kind of production that makes playoff-bound teams take notice.
He’s proven he can step up when it matters too. In last year’s playoffs with the Predators, he managed four points before they were knocked out by Vancouver in the first round. The year before that, he helped Minnesota with five assists in six playoff games.
The writing was on the wall for this trade when Nashville scratched him from the lineup earlier today. Now he’ll get another shot at a playoff run with a familiar team in Minnesota.
