Penguins Trade for Canucks Goalie Arturs Silovs

The Penguins just landed themselves a rising star in net, picking up 24-year-old goalie Arturs Silovs from the Vancouver Canucks. The trade cost them forward Chase Stillman and a fourth-round pick in 2027.

Silovs is coming off an absolutely incredible run in the minors. The 6-foot-4 Latvian netminder led the Abbotsford Canucks to their first-ever Calder Cup championship, earning Playoff MVP honors along the way.

His playoff numbers were off the charts. In 24 games, he posted a stellar 2.01 goals-against average and stopped an impressive 93.1% of shots he faced.

Here’s what makes it even more special: Silovs recorded five shutouts during that playoff run, coming just one shy of the all-time AHL postseason record. He’s also only the fourth goalie in league history to be named Playoff MVP.

His regular season wasn’t too shabby either. Playing for Abbotsford, he went 14-5-2 with a solid .908 save percentage and his career-best 2.41 goals-against average.

The young goalie hasn’t seen much NHL action yet – just 19 games with Vancouver over three years. But his track record in the AHL is pretty impressive, with a 59-35-13 record over five seasons.

The Penguins have him locked up through 2025-26, giving them plenty of time to see if their new acquisition can bring that championship-level play to Pittsburgh.
