A plate of nachos just changed the course of an NHL game – and no, that’s not a joke.
Edmonton Oilers forward Corey Perry had to get creative Tuesday night when he found himself skating around an unexpected obstacle: a full serving of nachos scattered across the ice.
The bizarre moment came early in the third period, with the Oilers trailing the Washington Capitals 3-1. Perry managed to weave through the cheesy mess and fire a wrist shot past Capitals goalie Logan Thompson, cutting the deficit to 3-2.
It’s not every day you see stadium snacks become part of the play. The nachos had somehow made their way from the stands onto the playing surface, creating what might be one of the most unique scoring scenarios in recent NHL history.
No word yet on who lost their game-time snack, but their sacrifice did lead to a pretty memorable hockey moment.
The goal marked Perry’s first as an Oiler, though it’s safe to say this wasn’t exactly how he imagined that milestone would come.
