Connor Ingram has played his way into staying with the Edmonton Oilers, at least for now. The team appears ready to keep three goalies on their roster rather than risk losing the young netminder through waivers.
The decision comes despite a brief window where the Oilers could have sent Ingram to the minors without any risk.
"They’re not sending him down," says Jason Gregor of Sports 1440. "It makes no sense to send Connor Ingram down, look at the way the guy played last night."
The Oilers’ plan for their upcoming game against the Vancouver Canucks is already set. Tristan Jarry will get the start, with Calvin Pickard backing him up. Meanwhile, Ingram will get some well-deserved rest.
"He’s staying at the JW Marriott; he can relax, he can get a good night’s sleep," Gregor explained.
It’s a pretty clear sign that Edmonton likes what they’ve seen from Ingram. The team seems comfortable carrying three goalies until after the Olympic break, even though that’s not typically how NHL teams manage their roster.
Ingram’s recent play has forced the Oilers’ hand. Rather than risk losing a promising goalie for nothing on waivers, they’re choosing to keep him around – even if it means some creative roster juggling.
