Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers put on a show on Sunday. His five-point performance led to an 8-2 win against the Anaheim Ducks.

He scored one goal and dished out four assists. This wasn’t just a great game, it was historic.

This was the ninth time McDavid registered five points in his NHL career. This feat put him past Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins. He now holds the record for the most five-point performances by an active player.

But that’s not all. McDavid also recorded four-plus points in consecutive games for the second time in his NHL career. This happened after he registered four assists in a 5-0 win against the Washington Capitals on Friday.

Only Wayne Gretzky, Jari Kurri, and Paul Coffey have achieved this feat in team history. McDavid is now part of this elite group.

He’s also joined the ranks of Nicklas Backstrom, Leon Draisaitl, Sidney Crosby, and Blake Wheeler. They’re the only active players to record four-plus assists in at least six career games.

The Ducks started strong. Forward Max Jones scored two opening-period goals. They even held a 2-1 lead just over six minutes into the game.

But at the 9:29 mark of the first period, McDavid began his historic outing. He scored his lone goal of the evening on a three-on-one opportunity. He snapped the puck past Ducks goaltender Lukas Dostal.

McDavid didn’t stop there. He showcased his skills as an incredible facilitator for the rest of the contest.

Late in the first period, he won a face-off in the offensive zone. He got the puck back on his stick and made his way into the slot. Instead of going for the goal, he passed to a wide-open Zach Hyman.

McDavid also assisted on Hyman’s second goal of the game. This happened at the 7:20 mark of the second period.

Three of his four assists were primary assists. This includes setting up a Leon Draisaitl power-play in the third period. This put the game out of reach at a 7-2 deficit.

McDavid is on a roll. He’s currently riding a four-game point streak and has amassed 12 points across those four games.

He’s rebounded from a low start. He currently has 25 points (seven goals & 18 assists) on the season.
