Drew Doughty turns 36 today, and what a career he’s had. The Los Angeles Kings star has been one of hockey’s best defensemen for nearly two decades.
He’s spent his entire 18-year NHL career with the Kings, helping them win two Stanley Cups. Those championship runs in 2012 and 2014 showed just how valuable he is on the ice.
The numbers tell quite a story. Doughty has played more than 1,200 games for the Kings, scoring 162 goals and setting up 534 more. In the playoffs? He’s added another 64 points across 10 different postseason appearances.
But it’s not just about the NHL. Doughty’s also been a star for Team Canada, bringing home gold medals from both the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics. Last year, he added another achievement to his collection by winning the first-ever Four Nations Face-Off.
His biggest individual honor came in 2016 when he won the James Norris Trophy – the award given to the NHL’s best defenseman. He’s also been selected as an NHL All-Star four times.
Think you know your hockey history? Here’s a challenge: Can you name all the Norris Trophy winners since 1976-77? You’ve got seven minutes to test your knowledge.
