NHL Maurice Richard Trophy Winners Quiz

Connor McDavid turns 29 today, and what a journey it’s been for the Edmonton Oilers superstar who’s been lighting up the NHL since day one.

He’s not just good – he’s in a league of his own. Three MVP awards, seven All-Star appearances, and five scoring titles tell only part of the story.

The Oilers grabbed him first overall in the 2015 NHL Draft, and he’s been worth every bit of the hype that followed him to Edmonton.

This season? He’s doing what McDavid does best. Through 40 games, he’s leading the league with 78 points and 48 assists. Only Nathan MacKinnon stands between him and the goal-scoring lead, sitting just six goals ahead.

Here’s something pretty remarkable: McDavid managed to win playoff MVP honors despite being on the losing team – that’s like winning a race while your car breaks down at the finish line.

But there’s still one thing missing from his trophy case. Despite getting to the Stanley Cup Finals in both 2024 and 2025, that championship ring has stayed just out of reach during his 11 years with the Oilers.

Last season, McDavid added another piece of hardware to his collection – his first Maurice Richard Trophy as the NHL’s top goal scorer. It’s kind of crazy to think that was his first time leading the league in goals, given how dominant he’s been everywhere else on the ice.
