NHL Insider: Maple Leafs Pursuing Former Top-15 Draft Pick

NHL insider Elliotte Friedman thinks he’s found the perfect fit for the Maple Leafs – San Jose Sharks center Luke Kunin.

With the March 7 trade deadline approaching fast, Toronto’s GM Brad Treliving is definitely going to make a move. The only question is: who’s it going to be?

“That’s a kind of player I think Berube and Treliving would like,” Friedman said on his popular “32 Thoughts” podcast.

And he might be onto something.

At 27, Kunin’s already matched his scoring from last season, putting up 11 goals and 7 assists. And there’s still plenty of hockey left to play.

He’s been incredibly durable too. Kunin’s played in 51 games this year – leading the league in that department. That’s exactly what the Leafs need, given their history with injuries.

But it’s not just about staying healthy. Kunin brings a complete package to the ice:
– Strong offensive numbers
– Solid face-off skills
– Throws lots of hits
– Blocks shots consistently

For a Leafs team looking to add depth and toughness, Kunin checks all the boxes. He’d fit right into Craig Berube’s system as a reliable depth forward who can contribute in multiple ways.

The Sharks center could be that missing piece Toronto needs for a serious playoff push. And with the trade deadline getting closer, we might see this move happen sooner rather than later.
