A decision has been made by the NHL Department of Player Safety regarding an incident involving Arber Xhekaj.
During a heated game between the Montreal Canadiens and the Bruins, Xhekaj found himself in hot water after accidentally punching a referee. The Canadiens were struggling against the Bruins, who led 4-1, when chaos erupted on the ice. In an attempt to rally his team, Xhekaj’s actions during a brawl drew attention for all the wrong reasons.
Things got tense when Lane Hutson collided with Mark Kastelic. As Frederic was trying to get back on his feet, Xhekaj decided to confront him. Kastelic didn’t appreciate this and jumped into the fray, gloves off and ready to fight. Despite referees trying to separate them, Xhekaj aimed a punch at Kastelic but ended up hitting an official instead.
Decision from NHL:
The NHL reviewed the incident closely and determined that hitting the ref was unintentional. Fans might think that accidents happen in such high-pressure games. Since there was no further announcement by the deadline, it seems like Xhekaj won’t face any suspension for this mishap.
