Nathan MacKinnon Strengthens MVP Campaign

Nathan MacKinnon just hit another major milestone in what’s turning out to be an incredible season for the Colorado Avalanche star.

He became the NHL’s first player to reach 75 points this year after scoring against the Winnipeg Jets Wednesday night, giving the Avs an early 1-0 lead in the second period.

The 28-year-old center isn’t just racking up points – he’s making a serious case to do something that hasn’t happened in 15 years: win back-to-back MVP awards.

The last player to pull that off? Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals way back in 2008 and 2009.

MacKinnon’s been absolutely dominant this season, putting up 18 goals and a league-leading 56 assists in just 48 games.

It’s looking pretty good for his MVP chances too. In NHL.com’s latest poll, seven out of 16 hockey experts picked MacKinnon as their top choice for the Hart Trophy. His closest competition is Minnesota’s Kirill Kaprizov, who got five first-place votes.

This shouldn’t surprise anyone who watched MacKinnon last year. He was practically unstoppable, finishing second in the league with 140 points over 82 games.

Now he’s trying to do even better. With more than half the season still ahead, MacKinnon’s showing no signs of slowing down.
