Connor McDavid seems to be giving Dylan Holloway the cold shoulder, and hockey fans are taking notice.
The drama played out during Tuesday’s Oilers-Blues matchup, where McDavid’s interactions with his former teammate raised some eyebrows.
One fan on X.com spotted what looked like some pretty tense moments between the two players. They noticed McDavid face-washing Holloway and even appearing to chirp at him after a goal made it 2-2.
It’s quite a change from just last summer, when Holloway was celebrating at McDavid’s wedding as part of the inner circle.
But things got complicated when Holloway signed an offer sheet with the Blues – basically choosing to leave Edmonton behind. That’s the kind of move that can strain even the closest friendships in hockey.
During the game, Holloway apparently tried to chat with McDavid during a scrum, but the Oilers’ captain wasn’t having it. He just turned and skated away.
The night’s perfect ending? McDavid absolutely undressed both Holloway and another ex-Oiler, Philip Broberg, with a spectacular overtime play. He weaved through them like they were standing still before setting up Connor Brown for the game-winner.
While it might be going too far to say McDavid was “disgusted” with his former teammate, it’s pretty clear the relationship isn’t what it used to be. Maybe it’s just competitive fire, or maybe there’s still some hard feelings about Holloway’s departure.
After all, leaving the chance to play alongside one of hockey’s greatest talents isn’t exactly an everyday decision.
