Frank Seravalli from Daily Faceoff reports that Max Pacioretty has three offers and will choose his next team soon.
Pacioretty, once a top goal scorer, faced two Achilles tears that almost ended his career. His last great season was in 2020-21 with the Vegas Golden Knights, scoring 24 goals and 51 points in 48 games. The next year, he had 19 goals and 37 points but played only 39 games due to foot and wrist injuries.
In the summer after those injuries, Pacioretty tore his Achilles for the first time, starting the season on LTIR for Vegas. To manage their salary cap, Vegas traded him and Dylan Coghlan to the Carolina Hurricanes for future considerations. The Hurricanes hoped he’d bounce back after healing . Sadly, during the 2022-23 NHL season, Pacioretty played just five games before tearing his Achilles again on January 19th against Minnesota Wild.
Max Pacioretty’s Journey:
After this heartbreak, with an uncertain future ahead of him, he decided to return to the NHL. He signed a bonus-heavy deal with the Washington Capitals on free agency’s first day last year. Fans might think it’s amazing how determined he is despite all these setbacks.
Pacioretty started playing for the Capitals in early January and completed 47 games by season’s end. He scored four goals and had 23 points but saw limited ice time—the least since his second year with Montreal Canadiens in 2009-10.
Depending on which team he joins next, Pacioretty could still be a valuable middle-six forward. Even though he’s been through so much over his career spanning sixteen years without winning a Stanley Cup yet—he might accept a smaller role if it means getting closer to that dream.
