Mark Scheifele Becomes Jets All-Time Scoring Leader

Mark Scheifele just made Winnipeg Jets history, becoming the team’s all-time points leader with an early goal against the Nashville Predators on Saturday night.

The milestone point – number 813 – pushed him past former captain Blake Wheeler in the record books.

It happened in classic Scheifele style. Less than three minutes into the game, he hammered home a one-timer on the power play from Kyle Connor, putting the Jets up 2-0 and sending the home crowd into a frenzy.

For Scheifele, it’s just the latest chapter in what’s been a pretty amazing 15-year career in Winnipeg. He’s already got 6 goals this season, bringing his career total to 342.

That scoring touch is nothing new. Last season, he broke another franchise record when he passed Ilya Kovalchuk’s 328 goals – a mark that dated back to the team’s Atlanta Thrashers days.

Speaking of Atlanta, there’s some interesting history there. The franchise played in Georgia from 1999 to 2011 before True North Sports & Entertainment bought the team and brought hockey back to Winnipeg.

Scheifele’s been there since day one. When the Jets picked him seventh overall in the 2011 draft, he became the first player ever selected by the new Winnipeg team.

The numbers tell the story: 342 goals and 471 assists for 813 points in 884 regular-season games. He’s been clutch in the playoffs too, with 49 points in 53 games.

The Jets are off to a solid start this season at 3-1-0. They’ll head to Calgary to face the Flames on Monday before coming home for three straight games against the Kraken, Flames, and Utah Mammoth.

For Scheifele, who’s already having a strong season, this record might just be the beginning of an even bigger year.
