The Maple Leafs’ efforts to trade Calle Jarnkrok have hit a wall, despite the team’s ongoing push to clear up their crowded forward lineup.
The 33-year-old winger, who carries a $2.1 million cap hit, hasn’t attracted much interest on the trade market according to The Fourth Period.
“The market hasn’t been vibrant, to this point, but the Leafs will continue to dangle him,” the outlet reports.
It’s not helping that Jarnkrok can block trades to 10 teams of his choosing.
The situation has become a bit of a headache for Toronto’s new GM Brad Treliving. After bringing in several new forwards over the summer, the team’s bottom six is getting pretty crowded.
Jarnkrok’s contract runs through 2025-26, which might be scaring some teams away. That’s a long commitment for a player who’s had his share of injuries lately.
The Swedish veteran has been quietly available since the offseason began, but finding the right deal has proven tricky.
For now, he remains in Toronto’s logjam of bottom-six forwards – a puzzle that Treliving and the Leafs front office are still trying to solve.
The team might need to get creative or sweeten the deal if they want to move Jarnkrok before the season gets into full swing.
