Maple Leafs Nearing Extension with Top Scorer

The Toronto Maple Leafs are about to extend Max Domi’s contract for four more years.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman says the deal will be worth just under $16M, or $4M each year. Domi was going to be a free agent on Monday, but this new contract would keep him with the Leafs until 2028, when he turns 32.

Late in the season, Domi really found his rhythm, scoring 16 points in the last 19 games and adding four points in seven playoff matches. Playing alongside Auston Matthews helped him shine; their mix of grit and talent worked well for Toronto.

Max Domi’s Journey:

Max joined Toronto almost a year ago on a one-year, $3M deal. He might still have more potential to show . In the past, he’s been a top scorer with 20 goals and 56 points in 80 games between Chicago and Dallas during the 2022-23 season. His best season was in 2018-19 with 28 goals and 72 points.

Fans might think this is great news because they love seeing homegrown talent succeed.

In Toronto, Max had to play a tougher role supporting stars rather than being one himself. But if he keeps his top-line spot next season, things could change. A breakout season would justify his new contract and give Toronto the high-scoring winger they’ve been looking for.

Sometimes life throws curveballs that make you rethink everything you know about sports contracts!

Do you think this extension is good for both Max Domi and the Maple Leafs?
