Gabriel Landeskog isn’t ready to hang up his skates just yet.
The Colorado Avalanche captain hasn’t played a single game since hoisting the Stanley Cup in 2022, leading to whispers about his potential retirement. But he’s got something to say about that.
“Those people that are worried about retirement, they might have to re-think things a little bit,” Landeskog said firmly during Episode 2 of “A Clean Sheet: Gabe Landeskog.”
It’s been a long road for the 31-year-old Swedish star. He’s missed two full seasons dealing with a complicated knee injury that’s required multiple surgeries.
The Avs have certainly felt his absence. Landeskog was their heart and soul during their championship run, putting up 22 points in 20 playoff games.
There’s been talk about a possible return in the 2024-25 season, though details have been scarce. The team has kept things pretty quiet about their captain’s recovery timeline.
But one thing’s crystal clear: Landeskog isn’t done with hockey. Not by a long shot.
His message comes as welcome news for Avalanche fans who’ve been wondering about the future of their beloved captain. After all, you don’t usually see players miss this much time and come back strong.
Then again, Landeskog’s never been your typical player.
