The Kings have recalled winger Carl Grundstrom from AHL Ontario and promoted goalie Aaron Dell to prepare for their series opener against Edmonton, with Grundstrom returning from injury and Dell serving as an emergency third-string goalie for the postseason.
The Kings are shaking things up as they gear up for Monday’s clash with Edmonton. They’ve announced a couple of roster tweaks. First off, winger Carl Grundstrom is making his way back from a stint with AHL Ontario. Plus, they’ve bumped goalie Aaron Dell up from the Reign.
Grundstrom’s been off the ice for Los Angeles for a good while—over two months, thanks to a lower-body injury. But, he did manage to sneak in a couple of games with the Reign recently. Scored himself a goal and an assist, too.
The 26-year-old has had a decent run this season before his injury. Played in 50 games, netted eight goals, and dished out four assists. Not to mention, he’s thrown around 115 hits, all while averaging just shy of 11 minutes a game.
Now, with all that time off, it’s not set in stone he’ll be back on the ice for the Kings immediately. But, odds are, we’ll see him at some point during the series against Edmonton.
Switching gears to Dell, his situation’s a bit different. His AHL deal got an upgrade to an NHL contract last month. That move made him recall-ready for the final stretch. Dell’s been pretty solid for the Reign, appearing in a dozen games and boasting a 2.57 GAA alongside a .914 save percentage.
Bringing in Dell as the emergency third-string goalie is a strategic play. It lets prospects Erik Portillo and Jacob Ingham hold down the fort in Ontario as they head into the AHL playoffs. Quite the veteran move, Dell’s seen action in 130 NHL games over his career. So, the Kings are looking pretty set as they dive into the postseason.
