Dangerous wildfires ripping through Los Angeles have forced the Kings to postpone Wednesday night’s game against the Calgary Flames.
The decision came as multiple fires threatened communities across the region, with the Pacific Palisades blaze forcing 30,000 residents to evacuate their homes.
“Our hearts are with the entire Los Angeles community,” the Kings said in a statement. “We appreciate the hard working First Responders who are diligently working to contain the fire and protect our community.”
Fans who already have tickets won’t lose out – they’ll be able to use them once a new date is set. The team hasn’t announced when that will be yet.
The situation in LA is getting worse by the hour. What started Tuesday morning as the Pacific Palisades fire has now grown into a multi-fire crisis across the area, made even more dangerous by strong winds.
It’s been a devastating 48 hours. The Eaton fire, which broke out Tuesday night, has already claimed two lives and burned through 10,600 acres. That’s about eight times the size of Central Park.
Two more fires – the Hurst and Woodley – are also burning through LA neighborhoods.
The news is particularly grim for firefighters on the ground. CBS News reports there have been a “significant number of injuries,” and none of the fires are contained yet.
With high winds continuing and firefighters working around the clock, safety remains the top priority. The Kings’ decision to postpone comes as part of a broader emergency response across the region.
