Keanu Reeves is getting a chance to live his hockey dream.
The Windsor Spitfires signed Keanu Reeves to a one-day contract on Thursday. The movie star was in Windsor for a show with his band Dogstar, and the team saw an opportunity to help him reach an old milestone. Besides signing the contract, Reeves also autographed several items that will be auctioned off, with proceeds going to the Canadian Mental Health Association – Windsor.
Growing up in the Greater Toronto Area, Reeves attended four different high schools. At De La Salle College, he earned a reputation as one of the top goaltenders and was nicknamed “The Wall.” He caught the interest of several Ontario Hockey League teams but had to quit hockey due to an injury . This led him down the path of acting instead.
Reeves’ Acting Career:
Despite being famous for roles in movies like John Wick, The Matrix series, Point Break, and Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, many forget his first film role was related to hockey. In 1986’s Youngblood, he played Heaver, a goalie for the Hamilton Mustangs—a junior hockey team chasing the Memorial Cup. He starred alongside Rob Lowe and Patrick Swayze. Even though it was fictional, it gave him a taste of junior hockey glory.
Fans might think it’s awesome that he’s finally getting this chance after all these years.
Reeves has also been in other sports films like The Replacements (2000) where he played Shane Falco and Hardball (2001) as Conor O’Neill. Plus, he voiced Duke Caboom—a Canadian daredevil—in Toy Story 4 (2019), showing love for his Canadian roots.
