Jakub Vrana’s return to the NHL wasn’t smooth sailing, but he’s back with the team that first drafted him.
After taking a gamble on a professional tryout during training camp, Vrana earned a spot on Washington’s roster with a one-year deal. His comeback is already turning heads as he scored in his very first game with them since 2021, making an impact right away.
The goal came early in the game against the Las Vegas Golden Knights, sparking excitement among fans . Remember when he was beloved in Washington? He scored during Game 5 of the 2018 Stanley Cup Finals against these same Golden Knights! But things weren’t always this bright after that victory. Traded to Detroit in 2021 and then to St. Louis in 2023, Vrana almost vanished from the league entirely last offseason.

Over nine seasons, Vrana collected 209 points (76 goals and 81 assists) while playing for Washington. Yet recently, his scoring touch seemed to fade away like an old photograph. Coach Spencer Carbery noticed something special about Vrana’s speed and offensive instincts during preseason; he said it could make him stand out again.
