In a recent update, the New York Islanders shared some news about their players’ injuries.
Mike Reilly, who had a concussion on November 1st, is now dealing with a heart issue that needs surgery. Although he’s expected to recover fully and return to hockey eventually, he will be away from the ice for quite some time. Lou Lamoriello explained that this condition was discovered during routine checks after his concussion. He said, “It’s probably a blessing in disguise… [His quality of life will be] 100% and he will be able to play once this procedure is done.”
Reilly’s absence might last several months, meaning fans may not see him until next season. He’s been an important player for the Islanders since joining from Florida Panthers last year, scoring six goals and earning 24 points in 70 games. The team also updated on other players: Alexander Romanov could soon return as he’s day-to-day and might play against Calgary Flames on Tuesday night.
Other Player Updates:
As for Anthony Duclair, Mathew Barzal, and Adam Pelech—none have started skating again yet. Duclair has been out since October 19th due to a lower-body injury but should begin his recovery soon based on initial timelines. Meanwhile, Barzal and Pelech were injured recently in early November games; they’re still waiting for medical clearance.
Fans might wonder how these injuries will impact the team’s performance this season. What do you think?
