Former First Rounder Heads Overseas After NHL Struggles

Former Detroit Red Wings first-round pick Filip Zadina has signed with HC Davos in Switzerland.

Zadina’s journey in the NHL has been rocky, filled with ups and downs. Despite high hopes as a sixth-overall pick, he struggled to meet expectations. Rumors swirled about him signing a PTO with an NHL team, but his agent denied those claims. Seeking a fresh start, Zadina asked for his contract with Detroit to be terminated in July 2023. He then joined the San Jose Sharks last summer.

With the Sharks, Zadina scored 13 goals and made 10 assists over 72 games. However, his overall performance wasn’t enough to secure another NHL contract this summer.

New Chapter in Switzerland:

Although he could have tried out for an NHL team lacking forward depth, Zadina chose stability in Switzerland instead. His move pauses his NHL career but gives him a chance to regain the offensive skills that once made him a top draft pick .

Fans might think this change will help Zadina find his game again.

Davos has been strong historically with 31 titles but struggled recently, finishing sixth last year and exiting early from the playoffs. This new chapter could be what both Zadina and Davos need to turn things around.

What do you think about this move?
