Cameron York is set to rejoin the Flyers’ lineup this Saturday against the Blackhawks. After spending nearly a month on injured reserve due to an upper-body injury, he’s been practicing fully for several days. The team initially estimated a two-week recovery, but they chose to be cautious with his return.
York, 23, was picked 14th overall in the 2019 draft and played at least 20 minutes in each of his first seven games this season. He scored twice and assisted once with a -2 rating before his injury. Although it’s uncertain where he’ll fit into the lineup when he returns, he previously partnered with Travis Sanheim on the top pairing.
Another potential returnee for the Flyers is Emil Andrae, who practiced line rushes and power-play drills recently. Andrae had three assists in ten games before getting injured last week against the Sabres. He has missed two games but wasn’t placed on IR.
Team Roster Decisions:
The Flyers face some decisions about their roster since York’s activation requires freeing up a spot. They could move Andrae to IR if he’s not ready or send rookie Helge Grans back to the minors after his recent performances. Fans might wonder why these choices are so tricky sometimes!
York is currently in year two of a $3.2M contract that ends next summer when he’ll become a restricted free agent with arbitration rights.
