Flyers’ Matvei Michkov Named Rookie of the Month

The Philadelphia Flyers shared exciting news on Friday: Matvei Michkov snagged the NHL Rookie of the Month award for October.

Michkov has been a standout in his first 11 games, racking up four goals and five assists. This makes him the top rookie scorer with nine points.

Drafted seventh overall by the Flyers in 2023, Michkov is proving his worth. Among rookies, he’s leading in power-play goals with three and boasts six power-play points. His performance includes tying for most multi-point games at three, ranking second in ice time with an average of 18:26 per game, third in shots on goal with 20, and fourth in points per game at 0.82. Michkov made his NHL debut against the Vancouver Canucks on Oct. 11, notched his first point versus the Calgary Flames on Oct. 12, and scored his inaugural goal against the Edmonton Oilers on Oct. 15. Before joining the Flyers this offseason, he played for HC Sochi in the KHL last season where he scored 19 goals and made 22 assists over 47 games.

Michkov’s Journey Before Joining The Flyers:

Before HC Sochi, Michkov had a brief stint with SKA St. Petersburg but only appeared once before being loaned out to HC Sochi for the season. At HC Sochi, he led with 19 goals and was second in total points with 41 while ranking third on assists at 22 during that year. He managed to secure impressive stats including eleven multi-point games; these featured three occasions where he scored thrice and five different streaks where he earned points across three consecutive games—one even stretched to four!
