The Calgary Flames have decided to bring up Jakob Pelletier and Walker Duehr from the AHL’s Calgary Wranglers, making space by sending Adam Klapka to the minors and placing Justin Kirkland on injured reserve.
Kirkland got hurt in Friday’s game against Columbus, leaving with a lower-body injury, and he missed Saturday’s match. Now, he’s out for at least three more games.
Pelletier and Duehr have been shining stars for the Wranglers lately. Both have racked up 19 points in 20 games. Duehr has been on fire with 11 goals and eight assists, while Pelletier has scored three goals alongside his impressive tally of 16 assists. Fans might be wondering if these players will make a big splash in the NHL soon.
Exciting Changes for Calgary
Duehr brings more experience to the table; he’s played in 68 NHL games over four seasons, scoring evenly with nine goals and nine assists. Meanwhile, Pelletier has appeared in 37 NHL games over three seasons but hasn’t quite hit his stride yet. Still, he’s considered one of Calgary’s top prospects since being picked 26th overall in the 2019 NHL Draft.
One of these two is expected to jump right into the lineup, likely taking over Klapka’s spot on the fourth-line wing. With his right-handed shot, Duehr seems like a smart pick for this role.
Klapka returns to AHL after six scoreless NHL games but aims to regain form where he excelled last season with an impressive record of five goals and eight points in just seven AHL games this year.
