Yegor Sharangovich is on injured reserve, as noted by the NHL’s media portal.
He got hurt during Friday’s preseason game against the Jets and hasn’t been seen at practice since. If his IR status dates back to October 4th, he will miss the season opener in Vancouver but might return for Calgary’s first home game against the Flyers. The team hasn’t officially said what’s wrong with him yet, so it’s unclear when he’ll be back on the ice.
Sharangovich was a key player for Calgary last season, scoring 31 goals and racking up 59 points. This was his first year with the Flames after coming over from the Devils in a trade for Tyler Toffoli. He topped Calgary’s goal charts and was second only to Nazem Kadri in total points. Expected to start as right wing alongside Kadri and Kuzmenko, Sharangovich can play any forward position . Fans might feel anxious about how this injury could impact early games.
Impact of Sharangovich’s Absence:
The Belarusian has four NHL seasons under his belt between playing for both Flames and Devils, who picked him in the fifth round of 2018 draft. He signed a five-year deal worth $28.75 million this July to avoid becoming a restricted free agent next summer.
Once he’s back, he’ll slot into a top-six role immediately—last season he played an average of 17 minutes and 19 seconds per game, making him one of Flames’ most-used forwards.
What do you think? Will his absence affect Calgary’s start?
