The Toronto Maple Leafs lost 3-1 to the Washington Capitals, and Craig Berube didn’t hold back his criticism of Nick Robertson.
Berube has often voiced his displeasure when the team struggles, and this time he focused on Robertson. The young player only got 9:35 on the ice, with just two shifts in the third period, as noted by Jonas Siegel from The Athletic.
Robertson has been surrounded by trade rumors since last season due to his inconsistency in making the lineup. Despite showing some promise with 14 goals and 27 points in 53 NHL games last year, he’s struggled this season with just 2 points in 23 games .
Challenges for Nick Robertson:
Although he earns $800K, his value seems lower than ever. Fans might wonder if Toronto can get anything worthwhile for him now. Drafted as a second-round pick in 2019 at number 53 overall, Robertson has accumulated only 17 goals and 36 points across five seasons with Toronto.
Toronto has shown they’re ready to part ways with players they don’t need anymore. They traded Timothy Liljegren to San Jose when he didn’t fit their plans. With Max Pacioretty back from injury and Max Domi along with Bobby McMann nearing returns, it’s tough to see how Robertson will secure a spot on a rejuvenated roster.
