Forward Corey Perry was absent from the Chicago Blackhawks practice at the Fifth Third Arena, with an “organizational decision” being the only explanation. Blackhawks head coach Luke Richardson said, “I just wanted to start by saying I know you have questions about Corey Perry not playing last night and attending practice today but we’re going to keep that internal in the organization right now.”
Blackhawks goaltender Petr Mrazek also missed practice, and forward Taylor Hall will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury. Perry ranks third on the team in scoring, with nine points in 16 games this season. He was acquired from the Tampa Bay Lightning and signed to a one-year, $4 million contract.
When asked about Perry’s absence, Blackhawks forward Nick Foligno said, “We just know he’s not with us. Haven’t gotten any details. It’s unfortunate, he’s a big part of this. We’ll miss him.” Rookie Connor Bedard expressed similar sentiments, stating, “Obviously it sucks he’s not here but we don’t really have too much information on it or anything yet. But of course he’s a big part of the team and it sucks he can’t be here today.”
Perry has skated in over 1,200 career games with several teams, collecting over 400 goals and nearly 900 points. The details surrounding his absence from the team remain unknown.
