Connor McDavid Extension Looms as Oilers Look to Fix Past Roster Moves

Connor McDavid is staying put in Edmonton. That’s the word from two of hockey’s most reliable sources, who both say there’s absolutely no doubt about it.

“100 percent,” Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli told Bob Stauffer on “Oilers Now” when asked if McDavid would re-sign with the Oilers. “Not 99. 100.”

Stauffer didn’t hesitate to agree: “I have it at 100 percent as well.”

It’s a huge relief for Oilers fans who’ve been on edge since McDavid’s end-of-season comments left some room for interpretation about his future with the team.

But while McDavid’s commitment to Edmonton isn’t in question, the type of contract he’ll sign is still up in the air.

The news isn’t all rosy for the Oilers, though. Seravalli didn’t pull any punches when talking about the team’s offseason challenges.

The front office has some serious work to do to fix last season’s missteps. While not all the problems started with new GM Stan Bowman, it’s now his job to get things back on track.

This summer could be make-or-break for the team’s future. With the NHL’s best player locked in, the pressure’s on to build a real contender around him.
