The Vancouver Canucks aren’t done reshaping their roster just yet. They’ve got their eyes on free agent forward Jack Roslovic, and talks are heating up.
The team has met with Roslovic multiple times, according to insiders Rick Dhaliwal and Cam Robinson. He’s looking for a deal that would pay him just over $3 million per year for two or three seasons.
Roslovic put up decent numbers last year with the Carolina Hurricanes – 39 points in 81 games.
But here’s the tricky part: The Canucks only have about $3.2 million in cap space to work with. Signing Roslovic would eat up pretty much all of that room.
He could be a solid fit as Vancouver’s third-line center, something the team desperately needs. But some hockey insiders are wondering if the Canucks should be thinking bigger with their remaining cap space.
At this point in free agency, teams are hunting for hidden gems – players who might have been overlooked in the early signing frenzy. Roslovic definitely brings some value to the table.
The big question is whether he’s the right piece for a Canucks team trying to take the next step. While he’s a reliable middle-six forward who can contribute offensively, he’s probably not the game-changing addition that would push Vancouver into true contender status.
The clock is ticking on Vancouver’s decision. With training camp approaching and limited cap space available, they’ll need to decide if Roslovic is their guy or if there’s a better way to use that precious cap room.
