The Canadiens have brought Logan Mailloux up from AHL Laval to join their team. With an open spot available on their roster, they didn’t need to make any other changes. This decision follows an injury to Mike Matheson during Thursday’s game against the Kings.
Matheson, a key player, suffered an upper-body injury and is being evaluated further. Kaiden Guhle is also dealing with a similar issue and is day-to-day. Mailloux made his NHL debut last season in a match against the Red Wings, where he got an assist and had two shots on goal over 21 minutes of play.
Mailloux had a strong first professional season with Laval, scoring 14 goals and making 33 assists in 72 games. His performance earned him a spot on the All-Rookie Team. The Ontario native played junior hockey with the London Knights in the OHL but faced legal issues while playing in Sweden during his draft year for sending explicit photos without consent .
Unexpected Journey:
Despite asking not to be picked due to these charges, Montreal selected him as the 31st overall pick in 2021. He served a suspension related to these charges but returned strong with 53 points in 59 games, leading defensemen in goals that season.
Fans might wonder if this call-up signals confidence or desperation from the team. Meanwhile, Matheson had started this season with three assists across five games but struggled defensively with a -2 rating.
Last year was remarkable for Matheson; he nearly doubled his career highs with 51 assists and became one of Montreal’s top offensive threats by logging over 25 minutes per game on average—third highest league-wide!
As for Saturday’s game against the Islanders? If both Matheson and Guhle remain sidelined, Mailloux will step onto the ice once more. What do you think about this lineup change?
