Ivan Demidov could be joining the Montreal Canadiens sooner than anyone expected – maybe even this season.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman just dropped some major hints about the Habs’ top prospect, and fans have every reason to be excited.
“It sure seems like the Montreal Canadiens are hopeful it’s gonna work out,” Friedman said about Demidov potentially signing once his SKA season wraps up.
The Canadiens haven’t been shy about their interest. They’ve sent scouts to watch him play throughout the year, and the reports coming back are pretty amazing.
“I know several people who’ve gone to watch him play this year and they say he’s an absolute stud,” Friedman explained. “He is as good as advertised.”
What makes this even more interesting is the timing. The Habs are in the middle of a heated playoff race, and adding a player of Demidov’s caliber could be exactly what they need to push them over the edge.
The young Russian star seems to get it, too. According to Friedman, “He understands why both the Canadiens and their fans are excited to have him.”
It’s not just about this season, though. Landing Demidov now would give him valuable NHL experience heading into next year, when the Canadiens are hoping to take an even bigger step forward.
The buzz around Montreal is getting louder. After all, it’s not every day that one of hockey’s most respected insiders suggests a top prospect might be making the jump to the NHL ahead of schedule.
Could Demidov be wearing the bleu-blanc-rouge before the season’s over? The way things are looking, don’t bet against it.
