Canadiens Intensify Trade Talks for Jordan Kyrou

The Montreal Canadiens aren’t done wheeling and dealing. Fresh off their Friday blockbuster for Noah Dobson, they’ve got their sights set on another big fish: Jordan Kyrou of the St. Louis Blues.

Multiple teams are chasing Kyrou, but Montreal’s in the thick of it, according to TSN’s Pierre LeBrun on "Insider Trading."

Word is the Blues want a young, skilled center in return. And that’s exactly what Montreal might be offering.

Late-night talks between the teams have centered around Kirby Dach and defenseman Mike Matheson heading to St. Louis, though there’s more to the deal than just those pieces.

Blues GM Doug Armstrong dropped a pretty big hint about what his team’s looking for.

"We’re very strong on the wing right now," he told reporters. "We’re one of 27 teams that would love to find a second-line center… if we make a trade, it’ll be an apple for an apple."

That’s where Dach fits perfectly. He’s just 23 and could be exactly what the Blues need down the middle, even with his recent injury troubles. The young center’s still got tons of potential to be a top-six player.

The deal makes sense for both sides. Montreal’s looking to add more firepower, while St. Louis needs help at center. It’s just a matter of working out the details.
